Trends Are a Menu, Not a Rulebook
Every year brings a new list of "must-have" wedding trends. Some are lovely. Some will look dated in five years. Here are the trends wedding publications are pointing to for 2026, with our honest take as a team that films and photographs weddings.
The trend list below draws on WeddingSutra's 2026 wedding trends round-up. The opinions are ours.
1. Quieter, More Personal Luxury
The trend: fewer over-the-top displays, more restrained choices and personal details.
Our take: worth following. Personal touches (a grandmother's jewellery, a family recipe on the menu, a song that means something) make better photos and better memories than sheer scale.
2. Decor That Tells Your Story
The trend: decor themed around the couple's cities, hobbies and roots.
Our take: great, if it's genuinely yours. It gives guests something to talk about and gives us meaningful details to capture.
3. Wedding Content Creators
The trend: a dedicated person shooting quick, phone-style content for social media, alongside the main photographer.
Our take: fun if you want same-day reels. Just make sure they don't block your main photographer during key rituals, and remember that phone content is not a replacement for a properly shot film you'll keep for decades.
4. AI-Enhanced Wedding Films
The trend: wedding films with dreamy, fantasy-like effects.
Our take: try it as a fun extra if you like, but keep your main film real. In twenty years you'll want to see how your wedding actually looked.
5. Venues With Atmosphere and History
The trend: heritage and characterful venues over plain banquet halls.
Our take: we love these on camera. See our guides to heritage venue weddings and the best destination wedding locations in India.
6. Sufi and Qawwali Nights
The trend: soulful live music returning to sangeets and pre-wedding evenings.
Our take: beautiful for film. Live music adds emotion that a DJ playlist rarely does. Plan good lighting for the performers.
7. Giving Back
The trend: guests donating to a cause the couple cares about, instead of gifts.
Our take: a lovely idea, especially for couples who already have what they need.
8. Fashion: Ornate Mandaps and Sleek Lehengas
The trend: soft pastel, sculptural mandaps and sleek, column-cut lehenga silhouettes.
Our take: choose what you'll still love in old photos. Pastels look gentle and timeless on camera; very heavy outfits can be tiring across long ceremonies.
How to Pick Your Trends
- Choose one or two that genuinely feel like you
- Skip anything you're doing only because others are
- Ask: will this still feel right when we show our children?
