Can You Have a Daytime Wedding Outdoors in December?
Yes, and in much of India it's one of the best times to do it. Winter days are often pleasant and the light is soft. But December also brings early sunsets, chilly evenings in the North, fog in some regions, and busy wedding dates everywhere. A little planning makes all the difference.
Plan Around the Sun
- Check sunset time for your exact date and city. In winter it comes early, and the temperature drops quickly after.
- Midday light is harsh, even in winter. Shade over the mandap or stage helps guests and photos.
- The golden hour before sunset is the most beautiful light of the day. Save it for couple portraits.
- Face the mandap so guests aren't squinting into the sun, and the couple isn't lit by harsh overhead light.
Plan for Weather
- Fog: in parts of North India, morning fog can delay travel and soften light. Keep the first event a little later.
- Cold: once the sun goes down, open lawns get cold fast. Arrange heaters, shawls or a covered space for the evening.
- Rain: rare in many regions in December, but not everywhere. Ask the venue about a backup.
Keep Guests Comfortable
- Shaded seating, especially for elders
- Plenty of drinking water
- Warm drinks once the evening comes
- Clear paths and lighting if the event runs past sunset
- Seating close to the mandap so older guests can see and hear
Practical Checks for an Open Party Plot or Lawn
- Power supply and generator backup
- Toilets and changing rooms nearby
- Parking and drop-off points
- Local rules on music and timings
- Whether the lawn is shared with another event on the same day
